The Thinket Now (Black Rainbow PVD, Engraved DLC & Gold)
The GEN 3.0, Thinket® Now (Black Rainbow PVD, Engraved DLC & Gold), has a hammer-peened and visibly texturized Black Rainbow PVD coating over Chrome-plated solid-Brass for the Handle, hammer-peened 24Kt. Gold-plating over Copper on #6061 Aluminum for the Slider-Heads, while the Slider-Tube is machined from #304 Stainless-Steel, coated with a Black PVD/DLC finish, then hand-engraved with silvery linework deep into the Black DLC coated surface.
Although the silvery hand-engraved linework tooled into the surface of the Black DLC coating is similar in appearance from one piece to the next, the specific workmanship for each engraved Slider-Tube is a unique creation because the lines are drawn in freehand without a physical template of any kind. This ensures that each hand-engraved piece is an original work in it's own right.
The specially grooved Slider-Heads are designed to accommodate special 15mm O-Rings for cool added haptic effects.
This Thinket form-factor adds a "reassuring-thud" effect to the soothing action called a "satisfying-bounce" that has always been delivered by every Thinket stress-relief device). The "reassuring-thud" effect was the primary motivation behind the most recent Thinket Kickstarter project called ("The Thinket Now, GEN 3.0), which was launched, funded, and successfully fulfilled in 2018.
The special new "thud" sensation is achieved by means of the custom-machined O-Ring grooves in the GEN 3.0 Slider-Heads; and several high-quality O-Rings are included with each Thinket Now for use with those grooves.
* IMPORTANT: "Please note that the Black PVD / DLC plating on the special limited production-run Slider-Tube is a diamond-hard, satin-like textured coating, and during use the black portion of the Slider-Tube may collect a bit of translucent Brass patina/residue from the Handle's inner flared Brass Sleeve assembly. That translucent patina is similar to a kind of "brass-rubbing" effect." Please see the last example picture of a Black PVD / DLC coated Slider-Tube showing just such a translucent brass patina. This effect is somewhat minimized when the Black DLC coated Stainless-Steel Slider-Tube has been engraved with debossed silver-colored S-S linework. In addition to hand-engraved linework, the Black DLC coating may be drawn-on and/or rubbed deeply with pure copper, then heat-treated for durability and added coloration.
